Managing Package Delivery in Your Community’s Office

In the age of Amazon Prime, Blue Apron and other popular subscription boxes, chances are good that your mail room is busier than ever. Apartment community offices are busy enough without worrying about your tenants’ deliveries. If you and your team do take on this challenge, though, it’s important to be prepared says Cal Bay Property Management’s Scott Safadi.

Having a plan is critical for managing deliveries. Meet with your staff to get everyone in on the policy. If you have a spare room or closet that can hold deliveries in an organized way, start there but only if the room locks! Security is important when handling your tenants’ property.
Once you have a designated package storage room, create a system to organize deliveries as they come in. This can work any way you choose, but some property managers install shelves with spots dedicated to various buildings in the community.
Use a tracking system to ensure you’re receiving and storing packages with accuracy. This system will come in handy when you need to alert your tenants that a delivery has come in for them.
The sky is the limit when it comes to delivery management, but communication with both your staff and your tenants is key!
