Reduce Cooling Costs this Summer

by Scott on March 27, 2017

It’s heating up and this summer is expected to be one of the hottest on record. Keep your tenants cool – and your cooling costs low – with these tips. Scott Safadi of Cal Bay Property Management encourages property managers to pass these onto tenants and make it a community goal to keep cool!
Install window films and solar screens on east and west facing units. The sun bakes these rooms in the spring and summer, so putting UV protecting window films on the windows can do a lot to cool down the units. They only work if the windows are closed though! If you know you’ll be opening them a lot, consider investing in solar screens instead.
Automate your thermostats. The internet of things is coming home. Invest in programmable thermostats that turn off or up after you’ve left the office for the day – or for tenants to use while they’re away from home. There’s no use in cooling an empty apartment!
Plant bushes and trees. Plants naturally absorb a lot of sun light and heat. Not only will your units stay cool, your property will be more aesthetically pleasing!
